There are many types of malicious software, and backdoor.tidserv is just one of these many threats. A low distribution parasite, this particular piece of malware can cause a lot of heavy damage. First released in 2008, this is a Trojan that is designed for wreaking havoc on computers running the Windows operating system.
What is it?
Backdoor.tidserv has many aliases. It is also known as Alureon, TDL, and TDSS. There are also variations on this particularly nasty Trojan horse.
As a Trojan, this threat will hide in other files or programs using a rootkit. It hides away in content that users will generally want as they are otherwise beneficial, but once the file or application has been opened, the Trojan gets started causing problems even if the computer user doesn’t get the beneficial content they were hoping for.
When this Trojan is on your system, it does several different things. An annoying parasite, backdoor.tidserv will redirect search results and display advertisements. Much more nefarious, however, is this Trojan’s ability to open a “backdoor” to the computer it is infecting, allowing more malware in and giving cyber criminals more direct access to the compromised system.
